Srimanta Sankardeva
Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva (1449-1568)
is a colossal figure in the cultural and religious history of Asom,
India. He is credited with providing a thread of unity to Asom
straddling two major kingdoms, building on past literary activities
to provide the bedrock of Assamese culture, and creating a religion
that gave shape to a set of new values and social synthesis. The
religion he started (Eka Sarana Hari Naam Dharma) was part of
the Bhakti movement then raging in India, and he inspired bhakti
in Asom just as Ramananda, Kabir, Basava and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu
inspired it elsewhere.
His literary and artistic contributions are
living traditions in Asom today. The religion he preached is
practiced by a large population, and monasteries (sattras)
that he started sustain his legacy.
In reverence to his personality, teachings and
oeuvre, he is a Mahapurusha---'Great Man'.

Special Economic Zone (SEZ)
What is SEZ?
A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a
geographical region that has economic laws that are more liberal
than a country's typical economic laws. Usually the goal is an
increase in foreign investment. Special Economic Zones have been
established in several countries, including the People's Republic
of China, India, Iran, Jordan, Poland, Kazakhstan, the Philippines
and Russia. North Korea has also attempted this to a degree.
Currently, Puno, Peru has been slated to become a "Zona Ecomomica"
by its president Alan Garcia. In the United States, SEZ are
referred to as "Urban Enterprise Zones"
In India
Considering the need to enhance foreign
investment and promote exports from the country and realising the
need that level playing field must be made available to the
domestic enterprises and manufacturers to be competitive globally,
The Government of India had in April 2000 announced the
introduction of Special Economic Zones policy in the country,
deemed to be foreign territory for the purposes of trade
operations, duties and tariffs. The Special Economic Zones in
India closely follow the PRC model.
List of India's SEZs
The policy provides for setting up of SEZ's
in the public, private, joint sector or by State Governments. It
was also envisaged that some of the existing Export Processing
Zones would be converted into Special Economic Zones. Accordingly,
the Government has converted Export Processing zones located at
-
Kandla and
Surat (Gujarat)
-
Cochin (Kerala)
-
Santa Cruz (Mumbai–Maharashtra)
- Falta (West
Bengal)
-
Chennai (Tamil
Nadu)
-
Visakhapatnam (Andhra
Pradesh)
-
Noida (Uttar
Pradesh)
-
Nanguneri,Tirunelveli(Tamil
Nadu)
Currently, India has 15 SEZs, each an
average size of 200 acres. The government has approved as many as
164 or more SEZs. 8 Export Processing Zones (EPZs) have been
converted into SEZs. These are fully functional. All these SEZs
are in various parts of the country in the private/joint sectors
or by the State Government.Other details shall be found in

Literature
Nobel
Prize
Any of the six international prizes awarded annually by the
Nobel Foundation for outstanding achievements in the fields of
physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and economics
and for the promotion of world peace. Nobel Prize,
award given for outstanding achievement in physics, chemistry,
physiology or medicine, peace, or literature. The awards were
established by the will of Alfred Nobel, who left a fund to provide
annual prizes in the five areas listed above. These prizes were first
given in 1901. The Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic
Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was established in 1968 from
funds provided by the Swedish national bank, Sveriges Riksbank, and
was first awarded in 1969. Each prize consists of a gold medal, a sum
of money, and a diploma with the citation of award. The amount of
money available for each prize varies from year to year. The Nobel
Prizes are awarded without regard to nationality; the judges are, by
the terms of Nobel's will, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences
(physics and chemistry, as well as economic science), the Swedish
Royal Caroline Medico-Surgical Institute (physiology or medicine), the
Swedish Academy (literature), and a committee elected by the Norwegian
parliament (peace). The awards are made on Dec. 10, the anniversary of
Nobel's death, the Peace Prize being presented in Oslo and the others
in Stockholm. A prize is sometimes shared; several times the Nobel
Peace Prize has been given to an organization. There may be one or
more years in which a prize or prizes may not be awarded; this has
happened most often with the Peace Prize. See the tables entitled
Nobel Prizes and
Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel
for lists of persons who have been awarded the prizes.

Health
AIDS
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is the
final and most serious stage of the disease caused by the human
immunodeficiency virus. Symptoms begin when an HIV-positive person
presents a CD4-cell (also called T cell, a type of immune cell) count
below 200. AIDS happens concurrently with numerous opportunistic
infections and tumors that are normally associated with the HIV
infection.
The most common neurological complications of
AIDS involve opportunistic infections of the brain such as progressive
multifocal leucoencephalopathy (PML) and meningitis, other
opportunistic infections such as herpes zoster (shingles),
peripheral neuropathy,
depression, and AIDS-related
dementia.
Causes and symptoms
The cause of primary AIDS is infection with the
HIV virus, transmitted via infected blood or body fluids. Methods of
transmission of the virus include unprotected sex, especially anal
intercourse; occupational needle stick or body fluid splash, which has
an estimated transmission rate of less than 0.3%; sharing of needles
in drug abuse; and receiving contaminated blood products.
Opportunistic infections occur in individuals
whose CD4 count is less than 200 cells/mm3 and those not
taking preventative drugs.
Symptoms of AIDS include:
- cough and shortness of breath
-
seizures and
lack of coordination
- difficult or painful swallowing
- confusion and forgetfulness
- severe and persistent diarrhea
- fever
- vision loss
- nausea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting
- weight loss and extreme fatigue
- severe headaches with neck stiffness

Networking
What is a
Network?
Network, in computing, two or more computers connected for the
purpose of routing, managing, and storing rapidly changing data. A
local area network (LAN), which is restricted by distances of up to
one mile, and a metropolitan area network (MAN), which is restricted
to distances of up to 60 miles, connect personal computers and
workstations (each called a node) over dedicated, private
communications links. A wide area network (WAN) connects large numbers
of nodes over long-distance communications links, such as common
carrier telephone lines, over distances ranging from that between
major metropolitan centers to that between continents. An internet is
a connection between networks. The Internet is a WAN that connects
thousands of disparate networks in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, and
elsewhere, providing global communication between nodes on government,
educational, and industrial networks. Networks allow for resource
sharing (e.g., multiple computers sharing one printer), data sharing,
and communication or data exchange (e.g., electronic mail).

Local-area networks?
Computer networks that usually cover a limited range,
say, within the boundary of a building. A computer network is two or
more computers that communicate with each other through some medium.
The primary usage of local-area networks (LANs) is the sharing of
hardware, software, or information, such as data files, multimedia
files, or electronic mail. Resource sharing provided by local-area
networks improves efficiency and reduces overhead.
Four basic types of media are used in local-area
networks: coaxial cable, twisted-pair wires, fiber-optic cable, and
wireless. Each medium has its advantages and disadvantages relative to
cost, speed, and expandability. Coaxial cables provide high speed and
low error rates. Twisted-pair wires are cheaper than coaxial cables,
can sustain the speeds common to most personal computers, and are easy
to install. Fiber-optic cable is the medium of choice for high-speed
local-area networks. Wireless local-area networks have the advantage
of expandability.

Steps for longer Battery Life:-
In case your mobile phone uses Nicd or
NiMh batteries, let them get discharged completely before you recharge
them.
-
Check that your
phone's battery contacts are clean. You might need to sometimes
clean them with alcohol.
-
Keep the batteries in a
cool, dry place, away from heat and magnetic objects.
-
Don't leave batteries
dormant over an extended period of time. Switch on your phone once
in a while to ensure this doesn't happen.
-
Switch off features such
as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use to prolong battery life.
-
Keeping the sound level
for ring tones and other audio notifications (SMS, Keypad press,
etc) at low will also help increase the time your battery lasts.
-
Do not overcharge your
battery. This may result in permanent damage.
-
Use battery chargers
specified by the manufacturer. Using other battery chargers may
damage your battery or shorten its life span.

Types of viruses are:
Trojan horses
A Trojan horse is not a virus in the strict sense, but a computer
program. Rather than insert code into existing files, a Trojan horse
appears to do one thing (install a screen saver, for example) when in
fact it does something entirely different, and potentially malicious,
such as erase files. Trojan horses cannot replicate automatically.
Worms
A worm is a piece of software that uses computer networks and security
flaws to create copies of itself. A copy of the worm will scan the
network for any other machine that has a specific security flaw. It
replicates itself to the new machine using the security flaw, and then
begins scanning and replicating anew.
E-mail viruses
An e-mail virus is a virus which uses e-mail messages as a mode of
transport. These viruses often copy themselves by automatically
mailing copies to hundreds of people in the victim's address book.
Logic Bombs
Logic bombs maliciously cause legitimate applications to fail.
"An application, for example, might delete itself, along with all
information and files from the disk, after a couple of runs as a copy
protection scheme. The logic bombs may transfer itself to other
applications and storage items, i.e. floppy disks, CD-ROM disks, and
CD Disks." source:

Assam
State (pop., 2001 prelim.: 26,638,407), northeastern India. With an area
of 30,285 sq mi (78,438 sq km), Assam borders Bhutan and
Bangladesh and Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and West Bengal states;
its capital is Dispur. A strong
independent kingdom was founded there in the 13th century by invaders from
Myanmar (Burma) and China; it reached its zenith in the early 18th
century. The British took control in the early 19th century. In the
division of India (1947), Assam lost some territory to Pakistan. Beginning
in the 1960s, four new states-Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Arunachal
Pradesh-were created from land within Assam. The Brahmaputra River
valley is its dominant physical feature. The population consists of
Indo-Iranian and Asian peoples; the most widely spoken language is
Assamese.
